fluctuations due to housing estates and private schools.
Special arrangements
Joint Use agreement with Playford City
Council re use of grounds & playing fields and gymnasium as the Angle
Vale school site is the only venue in Angle Vale to accommodate sport. A
community clubroom is located on school site to support sporting clubs.
Year of opening
Opened in late 1800s. Redevelopments in
1989 (Demac) and 1996 (Solid).
Public transport access
No public transport (bus). Closest
railway station Smithfield (7 kms).
A small percentage of students
access the Gawler High School Bus.
2. Students (and their welfare)
General characteristics
The majority of students are of English
speaking backgrounds. 5% of students are from non- English speaking
backgrounds. 3% of students are Aboriginal, 25% of students are school
card holders, and 5% are NEP students. There is an increasing level of
outside agency assistance sought for children with disabilities. Parent
support is very good where time is available. Many families have both
parents working. The community is generally very supportive. Most
parents show a keen interest in their childrens learning and in school
affairs.

A LAP programme operates for a limited
number of students and intervention programs at all levels are in place.

Student Management
We are implementing a Restorative
Practice Model to support Behaviour Development. All teaching staff
carry out counselling, but the leadership team supports this process and
plays a key part in counselling students. The Primary Assistant
Principal has wellbeing and .5 counsellor component within the role.
Student management is treated as a collaborative process between school
and home.
Student Government
The Student Representative Council (SRC)
plays an active role in the school decision making process as well as
providing vehicles for student activity in the form of discos, charity
drives, casual days etc. The Primary Assistant Principal coordinates the
SRC. Students are elected for two terms. Meetings are held weekly.

The Angle Vale Primary school is
committed to working with the school community to provide high quality,
relevant education and care for all students. The current school
priorities are Information Technology, Literacy, Numeracy, Wellbeing,
and Science.

Curriculum
Subject Offerings
All eight areas of study are offered:
There are composite classes in most year levels. The school has a high
focus in literacy, thinking skills methodology and technology. Italian
is the LOTE subject.
Special Needs
Intervention programs are resourced with
Early Intervention Grants, Special Education, ESL, Early Years Literacy
and Numeracy Grants. Collection of baseline data on NAPLAN results,
Reading Ages, Lexile levels, Year 4 & 6 Pat Maths & Spelling Ages,
informs teacher planning.

Team teaching options, composite
classes, single sex groupings where applicable, tandem teaching.
Collaborative planning, programming and decision making in teams.

Reporting
Parent Information letter sent home
early term 1, Formal parent/ teacher interviews late Term 1 and are
offered again in Term 3. Written reports sent home end of Term 2 and
Term 4.
Joint Programmes
We liaise closely with the Angle Vale
Preschool. The Preschool offer a transition programme to students which
ensures a smooth transition for both parents and students.
5. Sporting Activities
Classroom teachers are responsible to
teach Daily Fitness and PE lessons. The school is involved in SAPSASA
knockout competitions. Angle Vale students are involved in SAPSASA
summer and winter sports team selection. Swimming lessons are Term 4.
Aquatics programme for Year 6/7 students has been offered regularly. The
local Angle Vale community offers cricket, soccer, basketball, and
football. Students who wish to play netball generally access the Gawler
competition.

Staff profile
Mixture of permanent, tenured and
contract staff. Generally there is little staff mobility.
Leadership structure
1 Principal, 2 Assistant Principals.
Staff support systems
Year Level Meetings ~ Junior Primary,
Middle Primary and Middle School Primary collaborative planning and
teaching groups. Strong SSO team, supporting teaching staff and they are
responsible for many critical areas of organisation and administration.
Regular meetings, documented duties and responsibilities, training of
parents and work experience students, Groundsman 15hpw.
Performance Management
Staff regularly meet with a member of
the leadership team once per term. Staff meetings and year level
meetings include time for peer sharing / evaluation of classroom
planning, teaching and learning issues.
Staff Utilisation Policies
Staff are able to access a base of 1.5
hours SSO time for classroom support. There is also additional SSO time
in each class to meet the learning needs of students.
Access To Special Staff
Special Ed. 0.6. This is converted to
SSO hours for student support. An Assistant Principal coordinates the
Special Education Programme, 0.2 ESL support and 0.2 Aboriginal
Education.

Incentives, support and award conditions for Staff
Travelling time
Approx 50 minutes from Adelaide, 30
minutes form the Barossa, 15 minutes from Gawler, 15 minutes from
Elizabeth. Good traffic access roads from Adelaide to Gawler.

School Facilities
Buildings and Grounds
Major Redevelopment opened in Feb 1996.
Solid Administration block, Resource Centre, 5 classroom block, full
size gymnasium with all facilities. Remaining buildings are DEMAC in
poor condition and single transportable ex classroom refurbished into
canteen. Disabled access to all buildings. Site is very attractive and
functional with excellent staff facilities that are modern and
comfortable. Resource levels for staff and students are excellent.
Classes have access to 2 networked computers in their rooms as well as
fully functional computer room with 30 networked computers and permanent
projector with all class rooms fitted with interactive whiteboards.
Excellent sporting facilities, both indoor and outdoor. Bus for
excursions either private hire or from Gawler High School. Bus transport
for secondary students to Gawler High. Excellent facilities for
spectators to oval and hard court games and activities barbecue area
shelters and verandas.
Cooling
All buildings are air
conditioned, including the gymnasium. Older air conditioners have been
replaced with money from Investing In Our Schools Grant.
Access
for Students and Staff with Disabilities
All buildings have
disabled access from several points. A disabled toilet is located in the
administration building.

No public transport.

making exists. Documented organisational policy and procedures for

11. Local Community
General
Characteristics
The community consists
of a number of rural industries, market gardening, flowers, and vineyards.
The community continues
to develop rapidly with many parents commuting to work outside of Angle
Vale, new housing estates, and a shopping centre has been recently
developed to provide service to the growing community. There are few community groups (Progress
Association, Neighbourhood Watch) or adult sporting teams (Tennis, Tai
Kwon Do). Developed junior sporting clubs include: soccer, football,
cricket and basketball.

Strong links with Angle
Vale Preschool. Local High Schools are Gawler and Smithfield Plains
High. Currently most students attend Gawler High.
Commercial/Industrial and Shopping Facilities
A recently developed
(2008) Shopping Centre located
at Angle Vale for
essential needs, Cafe and take away facilities. Most shop at Munno Para, Elizabeth and Gawler.

12. Further Comments
The rural nature of
Angle Vale School combined with a modern redevelopment project provides
the growing community with a first class educational and recreational
facility. The school has rapidly become the hub of activity in Angle
Vale. It is attractive to staff in terms of teaching environments,
resources and supportive school community. The school provides a strong
focus for the community that will become more cohesive through the
increased use of the facilities and as local teams and competitions
continue to emerge and develop. The school currently has a positive
ethos and is held in high regard by the community.
